Do you accept the possibility of psychic phenomena, such as clairvoyance, mediumship, and telepathy?
Is it possible that the world most of us perceive does not correspond to the world as it is?
Are there forces, energies, and phenomena in the universe beyond those we presently perceive and understand?
Are there people who have more intense awareness than the rest of us?
These are some of the questions that arise in my four-book visionary fiction series, “Enter the Between.”
Enter the Between
One way to sum up the idea at the heart of my novel series is to ask another question: WHEN DOES INSANITY BECOME A BLESSING?
By insanity I mean experiencing an overwhelming trauma that needs to be metabolized, digested, and integrated, before it can be rejected as debilitating or embraced as liberating.
It’s traumatic, for instance, when one’s sense of security and of right and wrong is shattered by an unexpected event.
My protagonist, Marjorie Veil, discovers that sometimes what is labeled as insanity is instead a spiritual emergency, which if treated with support and understanding, can lead to personal freedom and authenticity.
Blogging my book series
Starting this month, I will lead you through my visionary fiction series via a string of blogs and chapter summaries.
Why?
Because I believe the time has come to consider that there may be more to the workings of our universe than we currently understand.
Between Will and Surrender and Psychic Phenomena
The first book in my series begins with a short prologue:
Sometimes, quite suddenly, we are caught unaware, and a door opens, offering a new insight, a new path, and we hesitate at the threshold, reluctant to go through, because we know if we do, life will never be the same. In retrospect, I can safely say that Cliff Smotherman drove me straight to it.
Chapter One
From Ash Wednesday until the first day of Spring, Marjorie Veil suffers alone, forced to think outside of what she knows to be true.
If she were your friend, what would you advise her to do if she told you she was hearing a voice calling her “Sunwalker” when no one was there?
Who can she turn to? Who can she trust?
Chapters Two-Four
After three weeks of agonizing over whether she’s losing her mind, Marjorie finally seeks professional help.
She can’t help but wonder, though, how a psychologist can possibly relate to her deepest needs.
Science doesn’t deal with issues of meaning and belonging. It’s too separated from the mystery of life. Sure, the doctor can tell her if she is crazy or not, but what then?
Somehow, she doesn’t believe drugs will be the answer
Slowly, transpersonal psychologist, Dr. Tony Mendez, gains her trust and draws out her story.
Then he tells her something she isn’t prepared to hear.
“Most of the time, we only use a small portion of our sensory equipment, and, in your case, your ordinary sense of hearing may have become fine-tuned. You may be more consciously aware than usual and may be experiencing a special insight into other realms of your experience.”
Clairvoyance or Auditory Hallucination?
According to the Mental Health Foundation, “it is estimated that between 5% and 28% of the general population hears voices that other people do not.”
“Hearing voices is an auditory hallucination that may or may not be associated with a mental health problem. It is the most common type of hallucination in people with psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. However, a large number of otherwise healthy individuals have also reported hearing voices.”
Chapter Five
In the hallway outside of the doctor’s office, Marjorie passes a seven-year-old boy.
He calls her “Sunwalker,” the same name used by the mysterious Voice.
The doctor then adds an additional shock, explaining that this is the first time the child has spoken in over a year.
Telepathy or Emotional Intelligence?
Mental telepathy, the process of transferring thoughts from one mind to another, has traditionally occupied the realms of either science fiction or the paranormal, both of which are outside of mainstream science. According to Eric Haseltine, Ph.D. in his article in Psychology Today, research in 2014 has changed all that, with a scientifically validated demonstration of mind-to-mind communication. “If mind to mind communication proves practical,” he says, “it’s possible that we will learn to communicate subtle ideas and nuances that text, speech and facial expressions cannot, forever changing the way humans relate to each other by amplifying and enriching the depth of communication.
Psychic Phenomena
In the opening five chapters of Between Will and Surrender, I introduce two forms of psychic phenomena, clairvoyance and telepathy.
Are you ready to stretch what you believe to be true?
Are you ready to go along for the ride?
Join me next month for an introduction to another underlying theme in my series: freedom to control one’s own narrative.
As always, thanks for stopping by,
