Today I hate it.
I’d rather be pulling weeds. I’d rather be cleaning house. I need to get my rear off the chair and get some exercise. This once fine-tuned body is turning into jelly.
How can I speed up this writing process so it won’t take up so much of my time? I have a life after all.
- My husband needs me.
- My kids need me.
- My friends need me.
- I’m noticing layers of dust on my furniture.
- My yard needs tending.
Okay, so I enjoy discovering all the new (and returning) visitors to my blog. By using my handy-dandy StatCounter, I know exactly how many “hits” my site receives, how long my visitors stay, and from where they come. I’m learning about places I’d never heard of before. Today, for instance, I had visitors from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil; Seria, Brunei Darussalam; Pasig, Pampanga, Philippines; Round Lake, Illinois; and Forest Hills, New York, to name just a few.
So, sometimes (okay lots of times) all the work seems worth it. But…
- I run out of things to talk about.
- My brain needs a rest.
- My fingernails are wearing down.
- My novels need revising.
Yet here I sit, pumping out another post.
Sometimes I hate blogging. Sometimes I love it.

As a fellow blogger I relate completely. It can be all consuming. But I've come to enjoy it, as I think of new topics to talk about. It can be work, and one does have to keep it once the commitment is made. But it gets the name out there, especially for a author. Once you have fans, they always want to know what's in your head. Which can be a intrusive..

But Margaret, I am so happy you are doing it. You help me.

Hi Lee. The days I enjoy blogging out number the days I don't. Thank goodness! And some posts just scream to be written. You're right. It's almost a necessity these days for an author to blog. I have been reminded more than once by L Avery Brown over at The Magnolia Blossom Review to write more about my growth as a writer. But it is sooo hard. Next month, I will try a little harder. Does today count?

Thanks Dorothy. My commitement was to continue through December. So far, so good. And you're helping me, too.

I can only write when something tugs at me. I am not one of those people who journal. so I just let it come when it comes rather than make it a chore. And yes the comments for me help lift me as some of what I sharing is pretty heavy stuff. I added the counter and other widgets about two months ago so it is nice to see the progress the blog has made in the few months I have had it open to the public. On your design page blogspot as your stats as well.
Many Blessings to you
Deanne

Hi Deanne. It's by far easier to write when messages tug at you, or as I said above, "scream to be written." Unfortunately, there are days when the ideas don't come easily and that's when writing a blog becomes hard. Comments from people such as you certainly help. I see you're a new blogger, too, so you know of what you speak. Wish you much success. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Margaret,
At least you 'continue to write'. I seem to be on a habitual hiatus and am filling in my time with going to the gym, learning the new weight watchers program, thinking about decorating for Christmas, and avoiding my passion – writing. I have found some solice, however, in doing some editing for a couple of other writing friends and discovered I absolutely love this aspect of the written word. Maybe all these years I've been sitting on the wrong side of the desk – maybe I should be the editor instead of the writer. But, none-the-less you have ispired me to (well, at least) think about writing again. Bernadine P.S. I too, know it is hard to get the creative juices flowing – it does take determination and perservation.

Hello Bernadine. Yes, at least blogging forces me to continue to write. No hiatus for me. Though going to the gym would be nice and maybe joining weight watchers (need it after all this sitting around). Wow. Editing. Lucky friends. And lucky you, if you love it. I'm glad that I've inspired you to think about writing again. That, too, makes blogging worth it.
